Anton Cornelis Zijderveld (1937) studied Theology and Sociology and became professor emeritus Philosophy. He wrote articles and became an influential political advisor on social issues – warning CDA (Dutch Christian Democratical party) for the populism of Geert Wilders. When cooperation with Wilders' party wasn't ruled out by the CDA he left politics and wrote the essay Populism, Political Quicksand (2009) which was edited for a German edition. He also co-wrote In Praise of Doubt with Peter L. Berger. His latest essay is called Why We Laugh
