Peter Giesen (1959) studied history and has been a journalist for de Volkskrant since 1991. He was the editor for education, chief editor in the op-ed section and science editor and commentator. His interests are history, sociology and philosophy. He recently started as a chief correspondent from Paris, France. His previous publications were Let Me Party (1991), about supposed and true problems of teenagers and Land of Cowards? (2007), about the history of fear in the Netherlands.
