Jonathan Robijn (1970) studied sociology and psychology. Since then, he worked for Doctors Without Borders. He has published short stories, including De brakke hond, Dietsche warande and Belfort. In 2013 his debut novel, The City and the Time (De stad en de tijd), came out and was nominated for the Gouden Boekenuil. Tabacco is his third novel, which came out in 2020.
