Elleke Boehmer (1961) has published four novels, Screens against the Sky (1990; short-listed David Higham Prize), An Immaculate Figure (1993), Bloodlines (2000; short-listed Sanlam Prize), and Nile Baby (2008), as well as short stories and many works of non-fiction, among them Colonial and Postcolonial Literature (1995, 2005) and Stories of Women (2005). Her edition of Baden-Powell’s Scouting for Boys was a 2004 summer bestseller. Her acclaimed biography of Nelson Mandela (2008) was translated into four languages, including Arabic and Thai. In 2015 Boehmer was part of jury for The Man Booker International Prize, which was awarded to Laszlo Krasznahorkai.
