David Attwell (University of York) has written several books about and with J.M. Coetzee (J.M. Coetzee: South Africa and the Politics of Writing (1993) and Doubling the Point (1992)). He spent five weeks researching the 155 boxes of Coetzee’s literary archive, currently available at the Harry Ransom Centre at the University of Texas in Austin, USA. The Life of Writing is the first book to feature detailed information from the various stages of J.M. Coetzee’s manuscripts.
